About the Film
About the Film
This project was born out of my animation class in junior year, where we were required to create an animated short film that was a collaborative effort of the entire class.
20 students and the instructor completed the project. It was designed to experience and complete the entire process of traditional 2D frame-by-frame animation.
From the theme and position of the short film to the details of the animation per second, it was done by all the participants through meeting discussions and voting.
I worked in Prop Design, Animation, and Title Card Design in this project.
Prop Design
There were a lot of props to be designed for this film.
I want the spaceship and other props to be childlike, but at the same time not idle. And I'm reminded of the movie Despicable Me, which featured a lot of strangely shaped transportation vehicles.
Secondly, I also looked for many different sources of inspiration, but I always set the keyword to be childish and fun, I wanted my designs to look fun!
Animation
I was responsible for scenes 16 and 39. This session was designed to let each participant experience the entire process of frame-by-frame animation from storyboarding, rough animation, line animation, and finally the finished animation consisting of coloring and shading.
Despite the shortness of each session of the whole animation, every participant was able to discuss and improve their work. In the end, each clip was very well produced.
SCENE 390
I think the key to this session is to liven up what would otherwise be a single keyframe.
So I enriched this clip by adding a lot of vivid actions to the characters based mainly on their personalities and the elements in the scene.
SCENE 160
✺ Title Card Design ✺
The whole movie and theme mainly reference the UPA style of retro American animation.
I used the space scene in the movie as the background for the title cards to add some mystery.
I used a bright yellow color to create a contrast with the dark blue color of the background. Next, I added some graphics to the side to add some graphic design.
